Why Should I Become A REALTOR®?

  1. REALTORS® are more than a licensee. They hold themselves to a higher standard. They are problem solvers. They are involved citizens of their community. They are the voice for homeowners and private property rights in the legislature. They give back. They educate first-time homebuyers. From residential, to commercial, to land, to property management, REALTORS® are continually seeking ways to market your investment and usher in the American Dream. REALTORS® are the gateway to the American Dream, and they do this by utilizing the REALTOR® Brand and the MLS.
  2. Utilization of the REALTOR® brand - REALTOR® is a registered trademark of the National Association of REALTORS® and can only be used by members of the National Association of REALTORS®. REALTORS® are 1.5 million people strong and are the largest trade organization in America. Use of the REALTOR® trademark by anyone who is not a member is a violation of copyright law.
  3. The MLS (Multiple Listing Service) is where cooperation and compensation of listed property are held. 94% of all residential sales occur in the MLS nationwide. Only REALTORS® have access to the MLS and are allowed to list and sell property in the MLS. The rules that apply in the MLS are for the protection of property owners as well as the REALTORS®. It is an agreement that benefits and protects both sides of the transaction.
  4. Code of Ethics - REALTORS® have a strict Code of Ethics which requires them to meet a higher standard of conduct than the conduct required by real estate law. REALTORS® hold each other accountable and agree to participate in their own legal system where violations of the Code can be filed by members of the public or by fellow REALTORS®.
  5. As a REALTORS® you will also have access to REALTORS® Benefits and REALTORS® license plate, which has the REALTOR® trademark on it with proceeds going to the REALTOR® Relief Foundation which has helped thousands of REALTORS® through natural disasters and loss of property.
  6. Three Way Partnership – Joining East Mississippi REALTORS® entitles you to also join the Mississippi Association of REALTORS® and the National Association of REALTORS®. Each of these Associations offer many benefits to their membership, including publications, conferences, education, and other events during the year.
  7. As a REALTOR® you can become a member of RPAC (REALTORS® Political Action Committee) giving you a voice not only in the election of local, state, and national officials. Through RPAC, REALTORS® also have a voice when it comes to legislative issues which would affect REALTORS® on local, state, and national levels.
  8. As a member of the Mississippi Association of REALTORS®, a library of over 30 standard real estate forms and contracts will be available to you, as well as the ability to access those forms and complete them with interactive software such as Zipforms.
  9. Earn Professional REALTOR® designations that will set you apart. There are dozens of designations that are awarded to REALTORS®, including GRI (Graduate REALTORS® ® Institute), ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative), CRS (Certified Residential Specialist), and MRP (Military Relocation Specialist) to name a few.
